11.08.2011

Today we had the strongest viento Zonda of the year…and it fell in the middle of my run.  Winds as strong as 100 km/hr in some areas.  Trees falling apart, wires cut, electricity out.  I must have mentioned before that Mendoza is DRY.  Dry with a lot of dirt.  Not dirt in the sense that it is dirty, but dirt in the sense that there is a lot of dry soil.  Particularly in the park, where I happen to run.

I begin my run on a hot and, surprisingly, humid afternoon after work.  (It is absolutely NEVER humid here, so it was quite a surprising feeling when my hair decides to blow up and I sweat without moving a finger.)  I really was not in the mood to run…it was probably the viento Zonda hitting me before it arrived.  However, I do it anyway because I know that if I don’t run I will feel terrible.  I am, literally, in the middle of my run, about 5 km away from a building to keep me safe, and the wind builds up so much dirt in my eyes that I still have brown-ickiness coming out of my eyes.  Gross.

Anyway, electricity was out for hours.  Hot, in a tall apartment building, without electricity and, therefore, without air conditioning, was definitely uncomfortable.  The opportunity was perfect to go to bed early, particularly because I have been running on little sleep.  So, I go to bed.  At 1:10 am, everything, and I mean every light, every television, the air conditioning sets, everything! suddenly turned on in my cousin’s apartment.  Even the telephone decides to ring!  However, that was just coincidence that my uncle & aunt recently got out of dinner in Mexico and decide to call at that very moment.  This viento Zonda really does cause problems.

K bye.
