01.15.2011

It is a pleasure to eat here.  I actually LOVE to eat here.  Everything has so much more flavor.  I am literally delighted with the quality, the quantity and the inexpensiveness of the food.

Here, nothing is processed, except for the milk which is hyper-pasteurized.  The fruit and vegetables that you buy, even in the supermarkets, are the same fruits and vegetables that you can pick directly out of the ground of an organic farm. There is no difference between “conventional” and “organic” here because everything is organic. The cows are fed grass, their natural diet, rather than genetically-modified, high-sugar-content corn that our cows eat in the US.  And, ALL the cows here are grass-fed and “free range.”  (Their regular market ham tastes better than prosciutto di Parma.) Granted, people eat a lot of meat here.  Probably more than necessary.  But even the fattest person here is not nearly as large as the average “fat” person in America.

The packaged foods here actually expire within a month or so.  The last time I bought a box of Wheat Thins (because it was either that or Lays Potato Chips) in the US, the expiration date was October 2012.  This was about a year ago. Nothing packaged has ANY artificial flavorings, preservatives, chemicals, sugars…potentially some products, but I have yet to find one.  I have been obsessed with these crackers.  I literally eat half a package a day.  Nutritional facts: 5 huge crackers, 110 calories, 2 g fat, 0 g saturated fat, <1 g sugar,  4 g fiber, 5 g protein, and only 6 ingredients.  Find me something like that back home.  Even the sodas are made with real sugar…not high fructose corn syrup.  Love this place.

k bye.
