Today I went skiing! I want to say for the first time, however a vveerryy long time ago in Austria I went skiing and all I remember was that I was terrible…the worst in my class of children. We were 6/7 years old. Anyway, I did not have high hopes arriving to the ski slopes this morning. (Remember how I fell into an acequia…twice? Well, that was when I was walking. Just imagine me skiing…)
We arrive in Las Lenas and I had a private tutor…otherwise, I would have rented a sled and sledded down the same slopes that all of these important people were skiing/snowboarding down. The poor woman was trying SO hard to explain to me that I am supposed to force the right side the same amount as the left when I am trying to brake (making the pizza) because my hips kept on shifting. It was not that I did not understand her, and I explained this to her, but it just took me about an hour and 41 minutes (the lesson was 2 hours) for me to actual accomplish this small feat. So, for an hour and 41 minutes, she figured out about 23 ways to explain to me the same thing to see if I understood better.
Generally, I did not get the feeling because I was, well, too fast. I would ski down the slope and since my velocity felt like it was at the same rate as any Olympic skier, I flipped out and had trouble stopping. When I finally had a chance to ski on my own, instead of skiing down at a normal velocity, I decided to be at a constant brake, as to not have trouble later. The constant braking thing hurts. My rear end has never felt so much muscular pain before. Plus, I unfortunately had the attention of everyone around me—“What is this chick doing? Why is she constantly in brake-mode? She’s making it so much harder on herself!” Great.
But, I LOVED it. I absolutely loved skiing. I seriously have the urge to ski from now on…every day. It is a beautiful sport, it is A LOT of fun, it is an outdoor-all day event, and, although it is individual the action of skiing itself, the people around you are the kindest people ever. Now, if it wasn’t so gosh darn expensive!
K bye.
